摘要Abstract：The emergence of China in the international trading system has shifted the gravity center, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, as it has become one of the mayor actors in international economic relations. Since the 2000s, with its incorporation to the World Trade Organization and through the subscription of preferential agreements, China has built a network of strategic partnerships worldwide. Lately, initiatives such as the Belt and Road show the Chinese commitment towards the strengthening of economic relations worldwide. Recently, the expansion of the BRI has included Latin American countries, and therefore, the analysis of the trade relation between both regions become relevant. Within the region, China has signed three free trade agreements (FTA), with Chile, Costa Rica and Peru. Through econometric estimations we study the impact of these FTA on bilateral trade flows and the number of products traded. The study shows that FTAs have a positive impact on both bilateral trade flows and number of products, which diminishes with time. Therefore, using relevant methodological instruments, we confirm that these agreements allow for an expansion of trade between Latin American economies and China, becoming relevant for policy makers regarding the bi-regional relation.
